Moon Sighting: Ramadan Fast Commences On Thursday — Sultan

Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has confirmed Thursday (tomorrow) first day of Ramadan in Nigeria.

The President General, Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs stated this in a broadcast at his palace in Sokoto on Wednesday evening.

He said;

Today Wednesday, the 29th Day of Sha’aban 1444 after Hijra of our Noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), which is equivalent to 22nd March, 2023, marks the end of Sha’aban 1444 AH, as the reports of moon sighting were received from muslim leaders and other organisations across the country, which were duly verified and authenticated by the states and National Moon Sighting Committee.

Consequently, tomorrow Thursday, the 23rd March, 2023, becomes the first day of Ramadan, 1444 AH. We therefore call on the muslims Ummah to commence fasting accordingly.

He therefore called on Muslims across the country to use the month  for extra prayers for the success of the new leaders emerged from the just-concluded general elections.
