The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu on Saturday disclosed that following the conclusion of last week’s elections, the Commission has received reports from its State offices, and official complaints from political parties and candidates, and it will punish erring officials.

The INEC boss stated this in Abuja at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

According to Prof. Yakubu, where infractions of any kind are proven, there will be redress, adding that any action taken by the Commission is without prejudice to the rights of parties and candidates to seek further remedy as provided by law.

On the use of technology, Yakubu said the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will once again be deployed for voter accreditation and result management.

Meanwhile, he promised that the glitches experienced last week on the Result Viewing Portal are being addressed as the Commission prepares for next week’s gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections.

Since last week, the Commission has intensified the review of the technology to ensure that glitches experienced, particularly with the upload of results are rectified.

We are confident that going forward the system will run optimally.
