Musk hasn’t responded to the world record news, instead taking to Twitter to reveal that users can now bold and italicize their posts.

It could have further financial implications for him however, as he planned to pay the $44bn fee for Twitter by selling Tesla stock. This has now dropped in value to $99.7 down from $400, around a 65% decrease.

Sanj Atwal of the Guinness World Records said: “Although the exact figure is almost impossible to ascertain, Musk’ total losses far surpass the previous record of $58.6 billion, set by Japanese tech investor Masayoshi Son in 2000.
