Sammie Okposo, Nigerian Gospel Artiste Passes On

Sammie Okposo, a critically acclaimed Nigerian gospel musician has died at the age of 51.

According to reports reaching MDB, the music producer died in his home on Friday morning while watching television. He was confirmed dead on arriving at the hospital moments later.

The award winning musician who recently completed the second leg of his Song of Praise  concert at the Logic church located in Lagos passed at a yet-to-be-disclosed hospital in the state.

Sammie Okposo is renowned as one of the most talented ministers in the Nigerian gospel music industry.

He has written numerous mainstream hits such as ‘Wellu Wellu‘ and ‘Follow U.

He released his first album Addicted in 2004.

He is also a music producer and CEO of Zamar Entertainment.

Three years ago, the Delta State-born music star had a close encounter with death after the propeller shaft of his car pulled off while on motion.

His narration reads;

I was not going to post this because I had already thanked praised and worshiped God for delivering me from death Saturday, May 16th, 2020 but this is something to brag about and testify of the miracle-working power of God I have a very BIG God who is always by my side to deliver me

He continued:

The image you see is my car propeller shaft that pulled off whilst I was in motion just before it happened i was doing 100/120 kph on the 3rd mainland bridge connecting to cms and then to surulere my destination as I was driving suddenly I heard a voice “SLOW DOWN” so immediately I reduced my speed to 60kph 10 seconds after reducing my speed from 120kph to 60kph the propeller shaft of my car pulled off with a loud noise.

The concluding part of his narrative reads;

Just imagine what would have happened if the voice of God did not prompt me to slow down imagine what would have happened if I was still on 120kph when the propeller shaft of my car pulled off.”

He has collaborated with many other artists in the gospel and soul music fields, and  collaborated with popular gospel singer Marvellous Odiete on “Follow You“. He performed regularly in Africa, Europe, and North America, and curates a series of concerts called SOPP (Sammie Okposo Praise Party).

His most recent album, The Statement (2018), was produced by the Grammy-winning Kevin Bond.

Okposo is one of the most decorated recording artistes in the Nigerian entertainment industry and one of the most influential in the gospel realm.

He is survived by his wife and kids.
