Buhari States How Nepotism, Political Patronage Has Gruesome Effect In Civil Service 

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Minister of Water Resources to lead and coordinate with relevant ministries and state governments to develop a Comprehensive Plan of Action for Preventing Flood Disaster in Nigeria.

The President’s media aide, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement on Monday, October 24, in Abuja, gave the names of the affected ministries to include environment and transportation.

Shehu said the president’s directive, which was conveyed to the minister in a letter signed by his Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, said the plan should be presented to him in 90 days.

According to the presidential aide, President Buhari is regularly receiving updates on the flooding situation in the country.

He reported the president as restating his commitment to address the challenges caused by the disaster in the country.

Earlier, the Lagos Government has disclosed that the recent floods in the country is not affecting the state due to its proactiveness and investments in the drainage system.

This is according to the Lagos State Information and Strategy Commission Gbenga Omotosho. He listed several places in and outside of Nigeria where floods have killed many and displaced millions.

The commissioner said while fielding questions on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics:

But in Lagos, you don’t have this kind of situation because we have a goverment that is proactive and due to the kind of investment we have made in our drainage system which is working; in cleaning our drains.
