The kidnappers of train travelers between Kaduna and Abuja freed four additional hostages.
On March 28, 2022, bandits kidnapped more than 60 Kaduna-Abuja railway passengers after killing 14 and injuring a number of others.
Since then, groups of the kidnapped passengers have been released.
However, a family source for one of the fatalities revealed that Professor Mustapha Umar Imam, a physician at the Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUS), Sokoto, was among those freed on Tuesday.
Imam, who was among those freed on Tuesday, August 2, reportedly had a gunshot wound while being held captive.
Akibu Lawal, Abubakar Ahmed Rufai, Muktar Shuaibu, and Sidi Aminu Sharif are other travelers that were freed.
Kaduna-based Publisher, Tukur Mamu, who has backed out of the negotiations for fear of his life confirmed the latest release.
Buhari’s Appeal For Collaboration Against Terrorism
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the collective efforts of nations towards tackling security challenges across the globe, and within Nigeria, urging more collaboration to check terrorism, banditry, and insurgency.
The president gave the commendation when he received Letters of Credence of the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amb. James Christoff and Ambassador of Mexico to Nigeria, Juan Oritz, on Tuesday, August 2, in Abuja.

Buhari told the diplomats that successes in taming insecurity had been recorded through collaboration across borders, and more could be achieved.
At the regional level, Buhari said Nigeria has been working with other Member-States of ECOWAS and other regional blocs, to deal with the problems of terrorism, trans-border crimes, maritime crimes such as piracy and illegal fishing on our waters, illicit drug and human trafficking, banditry, as well as unconstitutional changes of government.
I believe that matters of security have become the business of all nations as these challenges go beyond the abilities of any single country to effectively contain.
The world must, therefore, work closely together and Nigeria counts on your support in cementing the relations between our countries at both bilateral and multilateral levels to surmount these global threats to civilization.
