Nigerian social media commentator, Reno Omokri has expressed reservations about the rumoured emergence of Kashim Shettima and Babagana Zulum as frontrunners for the Vice-Presidential position to Bola Tinubu, the flagbearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Omokri made this call via a series of tweets on Saturday, July 2, alleging the duo’s biases against the native Christian community in Borno State.

Earlier, the former presidential aide had claimed that there is nothing wrong with the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

The former presidential aide to ex-president of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan said the focus should be on the credibility of the presidential candidates, not religion.

Omokri, a staunch ally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar made the remark via a tweet.

Omokri also explained that he was not opposing the All Progressives Congress (APC), due to its decision on a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

The sometimes controversial social media commentator said he was against APC due to its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

According to Omokri, Tinubu is not a credible candidate.

I said this before and I will say it again. There is NOTHING wrong with a Muslim-Muslim ticket if it is a good ticket of credible people.

I am against the APC, not because of that plan, but because Tinubu is not credible. Let’s focus on credibility, not religiosity!,” he tweeted.

Nonetheless, in his tweets on Saturday, Omokri stated that the news about a Zulum or Shettima vice-presidency is disturbing due to their alleged bias against Christians.

Ordinarily a Muslim-Muslim ticket in a muiti religious country like Nigeria is not wrong, if based on merit. But the news that Tinubu is considering either Zulum or Shettima, is disturbing. Because both of them are known got their bias against Christians in Borno.

Zulum, for instance, is notorious for doing nothing after the demolition of the EYN Church in Moduganari, wherein his agents killed one of the protesting Christians. Shettima is remembered for neglecting Christian communities. Can they protect Christians as VP?

Shettima notoriously failed to provide security for the Chibok Christian community. When Wike, the then Minister of State for education (now Governor of Rivers) wrote him to move WAEC students from Chibok to Maiduguri, he refused. Can such a VP protect Christians?
