Governor Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, has, on Friday, June 3, announced steps to reorganise the State Executive Council.

The governor, through his Special Assistant, Mr Kelvin Ebiri, declared the council’s dissolution with immediate effect on May 24.

However, his (Wike’s) decision to rebuild the council came after he sent a letter to the State Assembly requesting that three Commissioner nominees be screened and confirmed.

Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, the Speaker of the Assembly, read Governor Wike’s letter in plenary on Friday.

Two former Commissioners from Governor Wike’s previous government and one former Special Adviser to Governor Wike are among the nominees.

They are former Commissioners Professor Zaccheaus Adangor (SAN), who was the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and Mr Isaac Kamalu, who was the Commissioner for Finance.

The other nominee is Dr Alabo George-Kelly, who was Governor Wike’s Adviser on Special Project.

Isaac Kamalu and George-Kelly resigned their appointments before the dissolution of the cabinet to contest the Governorship Primary of the Peoples Democratic Party, in which they emerged as the first and second runners up, respectively.

Earlier in the week, Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, May 30, stated that he will not be regarded as a second-class citizen in the country.

Wike, who lost the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential primary poll to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, addressed Rivers residents on Monday after returning from the Abuja election.

The Governor expressed disappointment with the election results and stated that the North should not claim ownership of the country, claiming that Nigeria does not belong to any geopolitical zone.

He stated;

We have all it takes to do whatever we want to do. It is a matter of you to be fruitful. We cannot answer second class citizens in Nigeria.

We just used this one to tell them that enough is enough. We made them not to sleep, we made them not to eat, we made all of them from wherever they think they are coming from to know that there is somebody who can take them on.
