Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has stated that he is in talks with his Labour Party colleague, Peter Obi.

In terms of a possible merger between the NNPP and the LP, Kwankwaso and Obi are looking at the possibility of working together in the 2023 elections.

He made the remarks during an interview with BBC Hausa on Saturday, June 18.

Kwankwaso said;

We are really talking to Peter Obi, or at least saying that the committee is working to look into the matter (and cooperate with him), and friends and family are coming to talk to us about it.

He noted that their collaboration was especially important as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had not fielded an Igbo vice-presidential candidate.

On Friday, Doyin Okupe, the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Labor Party said that talks are ongoing between LP and other political parties to form a coalition that would win the 2023 presidential election.

Okupe made this known on Channels Television Politics Today program on Friday.

He admitted that it was difficult for only the LP to dislodge either the All Progressive Congress or the Peoples Democratic party, hence the moves for coalition involving the youths.

Okupe said;

There is no secret here, we are talking to so many groups, so many youth groups and political formations. We are talking to PRP, NNPP, SDP, we are talking to every possible major outfit outside APC and PDP.

Our idea and our reasoning is to bring together in this country, for the first time, the largest political coalition possible. You know, we are facing two political giants, APC, PDP and we are serious about upstaging them and we will.

But to do that, we cannot do it alone, we need to put together this coalition and the so-called third force is now alive and is forming.

We want to ensure that all the stakeholders are carried along from the beginning.
