Journalist, Teenager Shot As Osogbo Police Attempt To Disperse Protesters

Toba Adedeji, a Journalist with The Nation newspaper has today, May 31 been shot by the police officials deployed to calm some protesters in Osogbo, Osun.

Adedeji was shot alongside a teenager at the Olaiya area of the State whose identity could not be identified at the moment.

Some youths had gathered under Olaiya bridge in Osogbo to protest the alleged extrajudicial killing of one of them, identified as Abiola.

The protesters mostly youths had blocked the road and prevented vehicular movement due to the death of one of them.

The officers who were from Housing Estate Police Station, Ring Road allegedly shot the deceased in the presence of his girlfriend.

Afolabi was buried today and his friends held arally to mourn him.

About 30 minutes into the protest, some police operatives stormed the scene and shot into the motley crowd and journalists covering the protest.

Unfortunately, the journalist was shot in the thigh and was rushed to Osun State University, Osogbo for treatment.
