Four-Storey Building Under Construction Collapses In Yaba, LagosA four-storey building under construction at Akanbi Crescent, Onike, Yaba has reportedly collapsed, trapping yet-to-be confirmed number of people.

According to ThePunch, the building collapsed into another building beside it.

An eyewitness stated that a part of the building had collapsed late last year, but the construction did not stop.

 

 

A resident of number 29, Lawani Street, a street off the scene of the incident told the publication that her car was affected last year, when a section of the building collapsed, however, construction continued despite the police being called in.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Response Unit have reportedly been called to the scene but had yet to arrive.

As at the time of filing this report, only a 16-year-old boy and another adult male have come out of the rubble while there is an unconfirmed number still trapped in the collapsed building.

Recall that on 1 November 2021, a 21-storey block of luxury flats under construction in the neighbourhood of Ikoyi in Lagos, Nigeria, collapsed, killing 42 people.

Mr Femi Osibona, Managing Director of Fourscore Heights Ltd., the company in charge of the construction, was one of the victims.

Lagos State government is currently conducting an investigation into the collapse as coroner inquest into the building collapse presided over by Chief Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe is ongoing.
