UAE Lifts Flight Restriction On Nigeria, 11 Other African CountriesUnited Arab Emirate has announced the restriction on arriving from Nigeria and 11 other African nations will be lifted on Saturday January 29.

The nation’s National Emergency and Crisis Management Authority (NCEMA) announced the development in a Twitter post on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.

NCEMA said it was lifting the ban initially imposed as part of measures to curb the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

It added that flight arrivals can also resume from countries like Botswana, Congo Republic, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

The statement read;

Resuming entry for
arrivals from Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Republic
of the Congo, Republic of South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe, and updating entry procedures for those coming from Uganda, Ghana and Rwanda, starting from January 29th.


The country added that entry procedures have been updated for flights originating from Ghana, Rwanda and Uganda.

The statement also stated that a COVID-19 test obtained within 48 hours of departure and a PCR test at the airport in UAE would be required from travellers from the three African countries.

 

The new rules come into effect by 2.30pm on Saturday.

The Arab nation asked residents of African countries to refrain from travelling to the country if they have COVID-19 symptoms.

Travel restrictions were put in place in December by the Arab country over the emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Emirates Airline, the flag carrier of the UAE, had also suspended flights to several African nations as a result of the directive.

Last two weeks, the airline resumed flights from five African countries — excluding Nigeria.
