Ex-Abia Gov Theodore Orji, Son Arrested By EFCC

Theodore Orji, a former Governor of Abia State, has been arrested by Economic and Financial Crime Commission for allegedly misappropriating funds while serving as Abia State Governor between 2007 and 2015.

According to ThePunch, the latest development was confirmed by EFCC’s Spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren.

Theodore Orji, who is a serving senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, and his son, Chinedu, who is the current Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly are being quizzed over the N48 billion security vote and N2 billion ecological fund.

Chinedu reportedly turned himself in following his father’s arrest at the Abuja International Airport at about 10 am on Thursday.

Senator Orji and his sons, Chinedu and Ogbonna, are under investigation by the EFCC for offences bordering on misappropriation of public funds and money laundering.

The ex-governor is alleged to have collected N500 million monthly as security vote for eight years as governor of Abia State between 2007 and 2015.

Other issues relate to the alleged mismanagement of the N2billion Ecological Fund and the diversion of Sure-P funds.
