Yoruba Nation Rally Will Still Hold In Lagos- Sunday Igboho's Media Aide Insists

Olayomi Koiki, media aide to Yoruba secessionist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, has insisted that the Lagos Mega rally slated for Saturday will hold as planned despite Lagos state police command’s directive against it. 

This is despite the cancellation of the same rally by Sunday Igboho after the attack on his house by men of Department of State Services, killing two people and arresting others.

On Friday, barely a day after the attack on Igboho’s house which resulted in the death of two people, Koiki posted an update stating that the rally would go ahead as planned.

He urged Yoruba people to partake in the rally and support the agitation for self-determination.

Koiki wrote on Facebook;

Count Down tomorrow Rally goes ahead as planned. 3rd July 2021. Venue: Ojota. Time: 7 am. Come out in numbers to support the freedom of Yoruba Self Determination.

Also in a live broadcast this morning, Koiki explained that the rally will go as planned at Ojota, adding that Igboho will be back stronger.

He expressed;

I can still confirm officially that the Lagos rally in as much as whatever news or rumours you’ve been listening to from different outlets, will go as planned

The 3rd of July Mega rally will go as planned. All arrangements for the rally has been planned and nothing has changed.

I have spoken to the organisers, nothing has changed so far. 3rd of July from exactly 9:00am in the morning. The whole arrangement and planning is going on.

He stressed;

I’ve spoken with the general Secretary of Ilana Omo Odua, George Akinola and also in the early hours before noon, I spoke with Banji Akintoye and he is working tirelessly for the release of those taken away.

The rally in Lagos is going to be a peaceful rally, it is going to be a mega rally, do not be disturbed about what happened. So many development took place at Igboho’s house.

We might get a form of video from Igboho about the Lagos rally, which might be released, we’ll be deciding that in the next 24 hours.

He (Igboho) asked me to tell you all, not to be weighed down about what happened, he is standing with the Yoruba Nation agenda.

Despite warnings, security threats and advice against the rally, Igboho initially insisted the rally would hold and called on Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu to mobilise officers for the event and ensure the protection of the agitators.

However, following the attack on his house in Ibadan, Igboho, who spoke to BBC News Pidgin, on Thursday stated that the rally in Lagos has been suspended.

Igboho noted that the attackers were unknown men in military uniform who came into his house at Soka area in the wee hours of Thursday.

DSS later confirmed on Thursday that it was responsible for invading Igboho’s house and killing two people there, adding that Igboho should surrender himself for arrest.
