Simone Biles Pulls Out Of Women's Olympic Gymnastics Team Final After Posting Worst Vault Score Of Her CareerUnited States gymnastics superstar, Simone Biles has on Tuesday, July 27 pulled out of the team final at Tokyo Olympics, just after one game that led to a shocking error, resulting in her lowest score in years.

Biles, the most successful US gymnast of all time, had been expected to lead the US to gold in the team event.

By qualifying for Tokyo Olympics, the 24-year-old Biles became the first woman since 1992 to advance to all six possible Olympic finals — the team final, individual all-around final and vault, floor, beam and uneven bars final. Though she led the all-around ranks, Biles was uncharacteristically shaky on Tuesday.

Simone, who made history earlier this year when she became the first-ever female gymnast to perform the incredibly risky and complicated Yurchenko double pike vault, stunned spectators when she made a very uncharacteristic error in the team final, bailing out of the skill she had planned to do while in mid-air.

The gymnastics star was supposed to execute the same Yurchenko vault with two-and-a-half twists, but bailed out at the last second and only performed one-and-a-half twists, resulting in a much lower starting score.

Adding to that, Simone‘s knees then buckled on the landing, propelling her towards the mat – although she narrowly avoided falling to the ground.

Her resulting score – 13.766 – is the lowest she has received in years.

Shortly after the dramatic error, Simone left the stadium with her trainer and was closely followed by medical staff – sparking fears that she had sustained a serious injury.

She returned moments later but pulled out of the uneven bars, the second apparatus the USA were attempting with reserve Jordan Chiles stepping up, and shortly after, it was revealed that she had been taken out of the competition altogether.

According to NBC, a Team USA coach said her exit ‘is not injury related’ and instead a ‘mental issue she is having’.
