Just In: Sunday Igboho To Remain In Custody As Beninese Court Adjourns Till Friday

Yoruba Nation Agitator, Sunday Igboho Reportedly Arrested In CotonouYoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been ordered to return to cell in Benin Republic.

This is as the Court D’Appeal in Cotonou adjourned the case involving the Yoruba nation agitator till Friday, July 23, 2021.

The separatist activist is believed to have been arraigned on immigration-related offences.

After the adjournment, neither Igboho’s lawyers nor the Beninese counsel spoke on what transpired in the court, BBC Yoruba reports.

While Igboho was ordered to return to custody, the court ruled that his wife, Ropo, be released this evening.


According to SaharaReporters, an official said;

They just finished from court. The wife is to be released this night and Sunday is to remain in custody. The matter was adjourned till Friday.

Sunday Igboho was awaiting his fate at the Cour De’appal De Cotonou, Benin Republic, following his arraignment by the authorities of the country for immigration-related offences.

Igboho was taken to court on Thursday afternoon after he was arrested on Monday night at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport in Cotonou, while trying to fly from the country to Germany with his wife. 

Recall that Department of State Services (DSS) on July 1 raided the residence of the activist in Ibadan, Oyo state.

Igboho had planned a “Yoruba Nation Rally” in Lagos two days before the raid where DSS raided his residence, killed two people and arrested 12 aides.

The agency alleged that Igboho was stockpiling weapons, and subsequently declared him wanted.

The agitator had been on the run since the raid before he was arrested earlier this week.
