Aisha Alhassan ‘Mama Taraba’, Former Women Affairs Minister, Dies At 61Former minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha-Jummai Alhassan, popularly known as ‘Mama Taraba’, has on Friday, May 7 died at 61.

Suleiman Dantsoho, her former media aide, announced her death, saying she died from at a Cairo hospital, Egypt on Friday afternoon but did not disclose her illness.

She was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before defecting to the United Democratic Party (UDP) in September 2018.

She decamped after resigning from Buhari administration and was appointed minister in 2015 by Buhari to represent Taraba State after losing the 2015 governorship election to the incumbent Darius Ishaku.

Ms Alhassan, who was born on September 16, 1959 in Jalingo, Taraba State, resigned as the minister on July 27, 2018 after ruling APC screening committee disqualified her from the 2019 governorship primaries.
