Yobe: Boko Haram Attacks Giedam, Hometown Of New Acting IGP, Alkali BabaBoko Haram terrorists reportedly attacked Geidam local government area of Yobe State on Friday.

Geidam is the hometown of Acting Inspector-General of the Police, Alkali Baba, just as the residents of the town who are predominantly Muslims were about to break their Ramadan fast on Friday evening.

According to PR Nigeria, Nigerian troops assisted by fighter helicopters from the Nigerian Airforce were however able to drive the terrorists away.

Geidam is also the hometown of the immediate past governor of Yobe State, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam.

According to the source, the ground troops pursued some of the terrorists who fled the town after the attack was foiled.

Another source said the terrorists attacked the heart of the town, burning shops and shooting indiscriminately in a gun battle with troops.

Details of the attack were sketchy as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, Yobe Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the attack, saying the attackers were inside the town, causing destruction.

Geidam previously came under attack on February 9, barely after newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru visited troops.

The insurgents also attacked Geidam in February, kidnapping three Customs officers.
