Prince William has defended British royal family against allegations of racism made by his brother, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, his sister-in-law.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sparked global outrage with their explosive 2-hour interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired in the UK last Sunday.

The Duchess, Meghan, who is biracial, she claimed members of the royal family raised concerns about dark her son, Archie’s skin colour would be, even before he was born.

She said;

When I was pregnant… we have in tandem the conversation of ‘he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.

Meghan also expressed that “stress and isolation” drove her to contemplate taking her own life while pregnant with son Archie.

She claimed she asked officials at Buckingham Palace for medical help but was told it would damage the institution.

The Duchess clarified that when she said “the institution,” she was referring to several people and that, when she was feeling suicidal, she went to one of the most senior people for help but she was turned down.

She expressed;

Look, I was really ashamed to have to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry especially, because I know how much loss he’s suffered. But I knew that if I didn’t say that I would do it … and I just didn’t ― I just didn’t want to be alive anymore. And that was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought.

Meghan admitted to Winfrey that she would have committed suicide and since the royal family won’t help her, she asked for help from a friend of Prince Harry’s late mom, Princess Diana.

She said she struggled with her mental health due to the intense pressures of being in the Royal Family, and that she had suicidal thoughts.

Reacting to the allegation of racism several days later, Prince Williams, according to AP, stated that the royals are “very much not a racist family.”

In comments made during a visit to an east London school, William became the first royal to directly address the bombshell interview after Buckingham Palace reacted, saying the royals were “saddened” to learn of “the full extent” of the difficulties the couple faced after Meghan married into the family.

William, second in line to the throne after his father Prince Charles, says he hadn’t yet spoken to Harry in the aftermath of the interview, “but I will do.”

The Prince and his wife, Kate toured School21 in Stratford, east London as children returned to classes. The visit was also meant to mark the rollout to secondary schools of a mental health project Kate launched in primary schools in 2018.
