Manchester City‘s quest for a quadruple remains on track after a 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park in quarter finals of FA Cup.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have now won 25 out of their last 26 matches as their 2-0 home loss to neighbours, Manchester United remains their only defeat in the 26 matches.

City are still in for an unprecedented quadruple this season- FA Cup, Premier League, Champions League and EFL Cup.

Everton’s agonising wait for a trophy continues as their last hope of a silverware this season has now been cut short by Citizens (Manchester City).

The Toffees (Everton) wait for a silverware stretches back to 1995 and it will extend for at least another year.

Everton finished with just 26% of possession, their third lowest share since such figures were compiled. They had only 13% possession in the opening 25 minutes. Also, Carlo Ancelloti’s Everton limited City to only a shot on target in the first half.

The home team had defended and chased the game as they came closest to opening scoring as Yerry Mina’s glancing header was cleared off the line by Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Toffees’ defence line looked impenetrable till the 80th minute when Guardiola summoned Kevin De Bruyne from the touchline as the Belgian midfielder came on to settle the matter.

IIkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the 84th minute when Laporte drove down the inside left and slipped in a pass to De Bruyne. The Belgian hit a shot from the edge of the box which Everton’s goalkeeper, Joao Virginia tipped to the crossbar. The ball slid to Gundogan, who steers a diving header into the Everton net. It was the German’s 16th goal of the season in all competitions, scoring 12 goals in 2021 in all competitions, more than any other player in Premier League.

City doubled their lead in the added time, when Rodri met a poor Yeri Mina clearing header, instantly sending the ball down to . He shifted the ball onto his left foot and nearly rips the net with his powerful shot.

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola speaking about his side’s outstanding run of form after their victory said;

Honestly, since the last international break, we played 39, won 34, draw two, lost three, one of them was Porto away when we’d already qualified. In this winter time, four months, playing every three days, it’s incredible commitment. I don’t have any words to express that, and in this period, after one game we cannot even enjoy because three days later there is another.

Meanwhile, Everton Manager, Carlo Anceloti after the game had this to say;

I think my players have improved a lot this season, and the game today showed there is a different quality, but with strong concentration, good defensive organisation, we are able to compete. Man City is not a normal team in this moment, they are the best.

Semi-final for the draw will take place on Sunday evening after the conclusion of the last quarter final match; Leicester United vs Manchester United.
