Bandits Charge Zamfara Farmers ‘Harvest Fees’ Before Given Access To Their FarmsBandits in Zamfara State have reportedly been demanding ‘harvest fees’ from farmers before being permitted to enter their farms and harvest crops.

Some of the farmers affected expressed in Hausa language to BBC Hausa that they are forced to pay bandits to allow them access to their farms at the beginning of the planting season.

They stated that now that it’s time to harvest their crops, the bandits are demanding N300,000 – N900,000 per village.

According to sources who spoke to the publication, farmers are denied access to their farms if they do not pay these harvest fees.

The revelation has sparked reactions from many Nigerians on Twitter, expressing that the action of the bandits may be one of the reasons for the expensive cost of foodstuff in the markets.

They called on the Federal Government and Governor of the state, Bello Muhammad Matawalle to intervene and help the farmers take back their farms, which is their major source of livelihood.
