Police badgePolice in Adamawa State have arrested a woman, Aishatu Umaru for allegedly beating her step daughter to death.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday after neighbours reported her to the police for alleged killing of her step daughter, Walida who had been under her care.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje who spoke to newsmen in Yola confirmed the arrest of Aisha Umaru who is from Kugama village in Mayobelwa area for starving and subsequently killing the child.

He noted that the suspect was undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yola after which she would be charged to court.

Speaking with Daily Trust, Umaru denied killing Walida, saying the child had been sick with malaria without medical attention because her husband refused to provide money for treatment and feeding.

She expressed;

I did not kill her. What happened was that Walida liked leaving the house and going to a neighbour’s house, so I sent one of my children to call her. When she came back, I used my finger to push her on the forehead as a sign of rebuke, unfortunately she fell down.

Knowing that she was not feeling fine, I rushed to my brother’s house to inform him about the girl’s condition unfortunately he was not at home.

Umaru added;

When I returned to the house, I met one of my neighbours who told me that the girl had already died. My husband who caused all these was arrested with me and released after a daY.
