Lagos: 16 Injured In Gas Tanker Explosion At Ajuwon, Iju-Ishaga (videos)

Lagos: Explosion Rocks Ajuwon In Iju-Ishaga Sixteen people have sustained injuries in a gas explosion that rocked Ajuwon area of Iju-Ishaga road in Lagos State on Thursday, September 24.

Director-general of Lagos State Emergency Management agency, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu who confirmed the incident said two of the injured were in critical condition.

He said they have been referred to the Lagos State General Hospital in Ikeja. The others injured were given first aid.

Oke-Osanyintolu revealed that the explosion was from a 30 ton LPG tanker being operated by Mana Gas Ltd.

The fire is said to have destroyed several vehicles, an event centre, known as X and Y as well as a plank market.

He expressed that investigation revealed that a truck conveying gasoline had a lone accident and exploded.

Oke-Osanyintolu noted;

The agency responded to distress calls concerning the above and it was confirmed that a 30-ton LPG tanker being operated by Mana Gas Ltd was involved in an explosion, which destroyed several vehicles, X and Y  Event Center and a plank market in the above mentioned axis.

He added;

The responders discovered that a compromised seal device by the truck driver had led to gradual leakages then ignited when the tyres burst.

The impact of the explosion led to a fire at adjoining buildings and several vehicles were burnt.

Several persons were injured and have been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Responders at the scene of the incident are LASEMA, firefighters, police and members of NSCDC.

This comes a day after a tanker exploded in Felele, along the Lokoja-Abuja highway on Wednesday.

Twenty-five persons, including five students of the state-owned polytechnic, three nursery school pupils and passersby were burnt beyond recognition in the resulting explosion from an auto crash.

The crash, which was said to have been caused by brake failure in the fuel- laden tanker involved five cars, two motorcycles and three tricycles, all of which went up in flames in the ensuing inferno.
