Breaking: NCDC Confirms 143 Cases, No New Death As Total COVID-19 Toll Surpasses 54,000

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 143 new COVID-19 cases as total toll surpasses 54,000.

The health agency in a tweet on its official Twitter handle on Monday, August 31 saying;

On Sunday, Nigeria recorded 53,865 with 41,513 recoveries and 1,013 casualties across the country.

With the latest toll, total cases have now increased to 54,008 with 41,638 recoveries and 1,013 casualties across the country.

Also, NCDC in its latest situation report has revealed that overall samples tested nationwide have increased from 402,070 to 403,347 as at August 30.

Meanwhile, Federal Government has announced that some students who tested positive for COVID-19 while sitting for the ongoing 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) have been discharged.

Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, disclosed this during a briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, in Abuja on Monday.

He said all the students, who have tested negative, are back in class, saying;

We have confirmed that all of them are back in class. They have now been tested, they have all been discharged. We do not have any further cases
