Oluwatosin Ojaomo, the lawyer of suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has written a letter to the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, seeking his client’s release on bail.
Magu has been in detention at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Area 10, Abuja, since his arrest on Monday over corruption allegations levelled against him.
He has been grilled for days by the panel led by a former Court of Appeal judge, Ayo Salami.
Magu is reportedly being probed for diverting N39bn from recovered loot and selling about 157 oil tankers seized in Port Harcourt without following due process.
He has reportedly been questioned about 380 houses, properties in Dubai and seven vessels loaded with crude oil as well as the disposal of assets worth N37 billion.

There are also cash discrepancies allegation said to be N539 billion realised from the sale of seized assets and N504 billion declared by the commission.
According to Punch, his lawyer’s letter dated July 10 with the IGP office’s acknowledgement stamp bearing the same date, requested that Magu be granted bail “on self-recognisance”.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari earlier on Friday approved the suspension of Magu as head of the anti-graft agency, naming EFCC’s Head of Operations, Mohammed Umar, as his replacement.
