Hushpuppi hires renown criminal lawyer, Gal Pissetzky
Gal Pissetzky
, the legal representative of suspected internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, better known as Hushpuppi, has said the suspect is on his way to California, United States of America, for trial.

According to Punch, the counsel said this on Wednesday night to quell rumors that Hushpuppi have been released from jail, a speculation which generated from United States Federal Bureau Of Prisons’ database stating so.

The Chicago lawyer stated;

He (Hushpuppi) has not been released and I am still his lawyer. He is on his way to California. Not everything you see on court documents is accurate. Just because the jail record says ‘released’ does not mean he has been released. He is being transferred to California.

Hushpuppi, who is facing trial for alleged internet fraud worth hundreds of millions of dollars, was initially faced trial in a Chicago court, where he was denied bail, before the case was transferred to California.

The case is being handled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, after taking over from the Dubai Police, who arrested the suspected fraudster alongside some other associates in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

His lawyer has however expressed confidence that his case is getting better though he was denied bail and transferred to California.

Pissetzky stated that Hushpuppi still stands a good chance of being acquitted, stressing;

Our legal system is quite different from yours. That he was denied bail does not mean his case is getting worse. Actually, I think it’s getting better. I am not, however, allowed to comment on the facts of the case.

There is no new evidence put forward by the FBI at this point. Whatever news report that suggests things are getting worse for him is not true.

The 37-year-old and his gang were alleged to have defrauded 1,926,400 people from different parts of the world and stolen about 1.6bn Dirham (N168bn).

The FBI alleged that Hushpuppi also attempted to dupe an English Premier League football club of £100m (N48.4bn).
