Breaking: Total COVID-19 Toll Exceeds 29,000 As NCDC Confirms 575 New Cases

Nigeria’s tally of COVID-19 cases has risen to over 29,000 as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirms 575 new infections.

The centre made the announcement late Monday via its Twitter handle, bringing total confirmed infections to 29,286 cases.

The new toll comes two days after total infections figure in Nigeria spiked to over 28,000 cases.

Also, with the record of 163 newly discharged patients, there are now 11,828 successfully managed cases.

However, death toll has risen from 645 confirmed yesterday to 654 casualties nationwide.

Meanwhile, according to NCDC’s situation report, overall samples tested nationwide have increased from 151,121 to 152,952 as at July 6.

In other news, Kano State has the highest COVID-19 recovery rate in Nigeria, according to data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

As of Sunday morning, June 5th, 2020, Kano had 1,264 cases of the virus out of which 1,024 have been treated and discharged, meaning the state has a recovery rate of 63 percent, the highest so far in the country.

Though, Lagos in Sunday recorded the highest number of discharged COVID-19 patients in Nigeria – 1,653 –  the figure only accounts for less than one percent (0.15) of the 11,045 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state.
