Suspended EFCC boss Ibrahim Magu released

Ibrahim Magu, the suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been released on bail.

He was arrested and detained on Monday, July 6, 2020, following a summons by the presidential panel probing his activities in office.

Magu has now been released on Wednesday evening nine days after his arrest last week.

He has been appearing before a presidential panel investigating allegations of corruption and insubordination levelled against him by justice minister, Abubakar Malami.

Since his detention, his lawyer, Tosin Ojaomo has been making moves to ensure his release on bail.

Nigeria Police Force (NPF) earlier today denied detaining the suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a letter signed by DCP Idowu Owohunwa, Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, the force said Magu was not in their custody but was ‘held’ by the Presidency.

This is in response to the bail application of Magu’s counsel, Tosin Ojaomo.

More details to come.
