Chelsea football club has announced the signing of German forward Timo Werner from RB Leipzig club on Thursday in the first major move of the summer transfer market.

The Premier league club made this known on Twitter saying;

The club added that;

The 24-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Blues, and will remain at the German club for the rest of the Bundesliga season. He will link up with his new team-mates in July, subject to passing a medical examination.

Chelsea signed the 24-year-old striker for £47.5million and offered him a 5-year-deal worth £170,000-a-week, according to The Telegraph.

Werner‘s signing comes after Chelsea signed 26-year-old winger, Hakim Ziyech from Ajax in February.

Timo Werner has scored 32 goals and registered 13 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig in the ongoing season which has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He has been in fine form since the restart of the Bundesliga season and also scored for Leipzig on Wednesday against Dusseldorf.

Expressing delight at signing with Chelsea, Timo Werner said he is sure of a successful future with the London club.

He said;

I am incredibly happy to be joining the Blues next season!. It feels like the right step for me and I am delighted to become a part of Chelsea FC. I am really looking forward to playing for such a fantastic and historic club!.

Werner added;

I look forward to next season with my new team-mates, my new manager and of course the Chelsea fans. Together we have a very successful future ahead of us.
