Godwin Obaseki restrained by court to participate in Edo PDP primary
A Federal High court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has restrained the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki from participating in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election.

One of the party’s aspirants, Omoregir Ogbeide-Ihiama had approached the court asking that the Governor, who just joined the PDP from the All Progressives Congress (APC), to be stopped from participating in the primaries.

Omoregir Ogbeide-Ihama argued that since Obaseki was not part of the candidates screened by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) initially before the date on the timetable lapsed, he should not be allowed to participate in the primaries.

The Port Harcourt High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice E. A. Obile, hence granted Ogbeide-Ihama’s prayer.

According to the ruling, the court granted an order restraining the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, Emmanuel Ogidi and four others from allowing Obaseki or any member of the party that have purchased forms and were not screened within the time stipulated in the timetable to contest the PDP’s primary.

The case was then adjourned for motion on hearing to 24th June.

Obaseki had last week joined PDP officially after being disqualified from participating in the APC primary – which held on Tuesday where Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu emerged as the winner.
