Mysterious Deaths Hit Jigawa, Over 100 Feared Dead

Jigawa state has been thrown into mourning following the record of over 100 mysterious deaths in ten days.

According to the Special Assistant to the Local Council Chairman on Media, Sani Kakabori, who confirmed the deaths, an average of ten people mostly above the ages of 50 dies daily in Hadejia Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement obtained by Channels Television, the Chairman COVID-19 Task force and Commissioner of health, Dr Abba Zakari said the state has appointed a five-man committee to investigate the issue and recommend appropriate actions.

The Committee which is chaired by Dr Mahmud Abdulwahab with Shehu Mohammad, Yusuf Hakimi, Shehu Sule, and representative of World Health Organization (WHO) as members, is expected to report its findings within three days.

It would be recalled that in late April, Kano was also hit by mysterious deaths that claimed the lives of over 600 people.

Reacting to the mysterious deaths in Kano, Dr Nasiru Sani Gwarzo, leader of the Presidential Task Force Committee on COVID-19 told Newsmen on Sunday that:

“Let me inform us that most of the deaths recorded of recent and test carried out showed that Coronavirus was the cause.”

Gwarzo added that:

“So, before the final report which would be ready in the next one week or few days, it is necessary for people of Kano to wake up from their slumber that this is a serious issue.”
