Kano State has appointed Alhaji Muhammad Kabir Inuwa as the new Emir of the Rano Emirate.

The appointment was announced on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji.

According to him, Emir Kabiru was selected out of three candidates submitted for the position.

Inuwa before his new appointment as the Emir was the former District head of Kibiya.

This comes days after the passing of the former Emir of Rano, Tafida Abubakar-Ila in Kano on Saturday.

A member of the House of Representatives and Turakin Rano, Alhassan Rurum, confirmed the death of the emir.

The lawmakers said he died at Nassarwa Specialist Hospital after an undisclosed illness and is survived by 17 children and two wives.

According to report, the Emir was initially rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) but was later referred to the Nassarawa Specialist Hospital for further medical attention, where he died.

Rumours had however surrounded the nature of his illness and death as it is speculated to be a suspected covid-19 case. 

The speculations was denied by officials of the Emirate Council, saying his illness was not related to COVID-19.

Rano is one of the emirates created by Governor of Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje, at the height of his rift with former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, who was eventually dethroned and sent on exile to Nasarawa.

Meanwhile, a six-year-old girl has tested positive for COVID-19 in Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The Commissioner of Health and Chairman of the Task Force on COVID-19 in Jigawa State, Dr. Abba Zakari this on Tuesday.

He added that the girl’s father is the index case in Kazaure and was confirmed to be positive upon his arrival from Enugu State.

Zakari said the girl will soon be evacuated and will join her father at the isolation centre in Dutse, Jigawa. 

According to the latest statistics by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Jigawa State has 39 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with one death recorded.
