Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed 245 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed infections to 7,261.

The health agency in a tweet via its official handle confirmed the new figures on Friday night.

It stated;

With the new figure, total coronavirus cases in Nigeria have now jumped from 7,016 reported on Thursday to 7,261.

NCDC also reported the discharge of 100 patients, bringing the overall number of successfully managed cases to 2007.

However, death toll also grew by 10, increasing the country’s coronavirus casualties from 211 confirmed yesterday to 221.

Also, total samples tested nationwide have increased from 40,043 to 41,907 as at May 21st, according to NCDC’s situation report.

Meanwhile, for the third consecutive time, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has extended the ‘eased lockdown’ in the state by one week, to further curb the spread of coronavirus.

Abiodun revealed this on Friday noting that the new extension, which would commence on May 25, is hinged on the report of disobedience to government-ordered guidelines.

He said;

I have to state that after all considerations, we are constrained to take the painful but necessary decision to continue the eased lockdown of Ogun State for another one week till Sunday, 31st, May 2020.

Governor Abiodun added that the state will have its window period of relaxation, from 7am to 5pm on Monday, 25th May, 2020; Wednesday, 27th May, 2020 and Friday, 29th May, 2020.
