Kano State has on Saturday confirmed its first case of Coronavirus also known as COVID-19.

Commissioner of Health in the state, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, who confirmed the case, however didn’t give further details of the patient.

Tsanyawa said the state government would make an official announcement on the development as the governor was said to be in a meeting with health experts and the Kano State Task Force Committee on COVID-19.

However, sources said the COVID-19 patient just returned from Lagos State to Kano.

According to Daily Trust, the committee would issue a press statement at the end of the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government on Saturday has reversed concession granted to churches to hold Easter church services amid coronavirus pandemic.

On Thursday, Governor Nyesom Wike had urged Muslims in the state to observe Jumaat prayers on Friday and Christians to hold services with their full congregation on Easter Sunday.

But less than 24 hours to Easter Sunday, the state government rescinded its decision.

The state commissioner for Information and Communication, Paulinus Nsirim, in a statement said;

This decision was taken after due consultations with eminent clergymen, well-meaning Nigerians and civil society groups.

For the avoidance of doubt, churches should stick to the 50 persons per service to maintain social distancing.
