Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said that the second COVID-19 patient in the state to discharged after testing negative to the virus.

Wike disclosed this in a press conference at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Friday.

He said;

The second case which was recorded and taken to the treatment centre has now tested negative and will be discharged this morning, thanks to God for His mercy.

The governor commended health officials and security operatives for the success in containing the pandemic in the state.

Rivers State had on March 26 recorded its first case of Covid-19 – a 19-year-old model who reportedly travelled to Italy, Greece and Brazil before returning to the state.

The announcement of the index case came less than 24 hours after the Governor Wike banned all movement in the state through air, sea and land routes till further notice.

After undergoing treatment for some days, Rivers state index case recovered and was discharged.

The patient was however replaced by a 62-year-old male retiree who reportedly returned from the United Kingdom and tested positive to the virus.

As at press time, there are no reported cases of Coronavirus in Rivers state.
