By March 6, she was discharged and told to self-isolate at home as non-serious coronavirus cases were not being treated in hospitals at the time.

Since then, the university student has had five positive test results and one unclear result while in quarantine. An infection expert said of her case:

“Nobody else in Italy has tested positive for so long, so we are studying her case carefully.
“In general, positive results last no longer than four weeks.”

Ms Dobroiu said she hopes to undergo more exhaustive blood analysis.

“I have no symptoms or underlying conditions, so I’m not too concerned by the results,” she said.

She added that she is looking forward to going outside to have a walk and take in some fresh air as she remains at home with her mother, who has tested negative three times.
