World-celebrated country music singer, Dolly Parton

The heroic performer made the announcement in a statement on her Instagram page on Wednesday.

According to her Twitter post, the ‘Coat of many colors’ singer said that her action was encouraged after having the knowledge that scientists are making success in finding a cure for the virus

The country music star wrote on Twitter;

My longtime friend Dr Naji Abumrad, who’s been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements towards that research of the coronavirus for a cure.

I am making a donation of $1 million to Vanderbilt towards that research and to encourage people that can afford it to make donations.

Abumrad works at the Vanderbilt Institute for Infection, Immunology and Inflammation at Vanderbilt University hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

Foundations such as “The Clara Lionel Foundation” owned by Rihanna and “Shawn Carter Foundation” by Jay Z, each donated $1 million to coronavirus response efforts in the running week.

Others included Kylie Jenner who donated $1 million. Then Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively also both donated to buy personal protective equipment for health-care workers among donation from others.

Meanwhile, apart from her donation to Coronavirus research, Parton is fighting another front of the coronavirus crisis: bored children.

A number of children are stuck indoors with their family members due to the closure of schools and lockdown in various countries.

And because of this, Parton is launching Goodnight With Dolly, a bedtime story series on YouTube on Thursday, April 2, beginning with a reading of The Little Engine That Could.

She said she hoped the series would be “a welcome distraction during a time of unrest, and inspire a love of reading and books”.

Parton has long championed reading, with her charity, Imagination Library, having given more than 130m books to children.
