Just In: Supreme Court Sacks Bayelsa Governor-Elect, David Lyon, Installs PDP’s Douye As Governor
The Supreme Court has sacked David Lyon of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Bayelsa State governor and his deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo barely 24-hours to their swearing-in ceremony.
The Apex court also declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Douye Diri as the authentic winner of the election.
The Supreme Court sacked Lyon for presenting a running mate with a fake certificate in the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the state.
A five-man panel of the Supreme Court led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili ordered INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to the All Progressives Congress’ candidates as the winners of the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the state.
Justice Peter-Odili asked INEC to issue a fresh certificate to the governorship candidate with the highest votes cast and wide geographical spread in the governorship election.

I am not happy at the development in Bayelsa, not one bit. Yes, the PDP is the biggest beneficiary of this judgement but I am pained that once more, the verdict of the people have been overturned by the courts, this time, rightly so. PDP was thrashed at the polls in Bayelsa.— Mazi Gburugburu (@Mazigburugburu1) February 13, 2020
The IGP should direct his men to immediately arrest for prosecution the ousted Deputy Governor Elect of Bayelsa State for criminal breach of trust, perjury, forgery and other allied offenses associated with his conduct. This action will serve as deterrence. #Buildinginstitutions— Mazi Gburugburu (@Mazigburugburu1) February 13, 2020

What will they say about the Supreme Court now? Is the Nigerian judiciary dead or is it “the last hope of the common man”? 😂 https://t.co/Zo0pMWXoJR— Dr. Joe Abah (@DrJoeAbah) February 13, 2020
Supreme Court Sacks Bayelsa-Governor Elect, Lyon. Supreme court judgement says APC didn’t have any candidate in the last governorship election in Bayelsa. Politics in Nigeria is just turningoniown.— Zaddy Ajala (@UNCLE_AJALA) February 13, 2020
Congratulations to PDP Bayelsa regardless. We still need a review of the Imo Judgement. Here’s hoping that “intellectuals “ will not compare this pre election issue with that obvious fraud in Imo. Won’t hold my breath— Ayobami (@dondekojo) February 13, 2020

APC prepared for swearing in.
Lyon rehearsed for his swearing in as Governor tomorrow.
But PDP candidate will be the Governor of Bayelsa tomorrow.
The Supreme Court judgement against Lyon in Bayelsa expressly asked INEC to give the certificate of return to the next party with the highest vote and SPREAD. In Imo, they asserted that Hope had the SPREAD, but guess what? He didn’t! They SC clearly goofed in that Imo judgement.— Mazi Gburugburu (@Mazigburugburu1) February 13, 2020

Bayelsa does not compensate for the Injustice done to Imo State and Courts must be guided by the Constitution and not petty political sentiments.
Justice has been done in Bayelsa for anyone who followed the case, but it is no compensation for Imo State.
I celebrate you, my friend and brother, Senator Douye Diri. Your victory at the Supreme Court is a victory for truth and most especially, a victory for the great people of Bayelsa State. I wish you the best as you continue gallantly, the journey of your predecessor. pic.twitter.com/K7zXfTQjch— Ben Murray-Bruce (@benmurraybruce) February 13, 2020
So his opponent’s running mate fake certificate made PDP Diri Duoye the governor of Bayelsa state.— the Morris Monye factor (@Morris_Monye) February 13, 2020
What now happens to all the GEJ, Buhari, Sylvia powerplay?
This life eh!
The problem with with PDP winning Bayelsa ( in the supreme court)is that the party won’t learn a serious lesson.— William Ukpe (@William_Ukpe) February 13, 2020
Bayelsa’s defeat was meant to make PDP sit up
The supreme court happened
PDP hasn’t learnt shit, they needed to lose
Sha expect APC to win more states in the SS/SE
One minute you’re rehearsing for your swearing-in-ceremony. Next minute Supreme Court is nullifying your election. Mad pic.twitter.com/IBd8a98Xa7— Chidi Okereke (@Chydee) February 13, 2020
