The court asked that those standing as surety for the journalist must make a refundable deposit of N700,000 to court registry to perfect the bail.

The journalist had filed a fresh application for bail at the Federal High Court, Calabar on February 13, 2019, after his case was transferred to a new judge, Sule Shuaibu.

Agba Jalingo, the publisher of CrossRiverWatch, was arrested on August 22, over a report alleging that the Governor of Cross River, Ben Ayade, diverted N500 million belonging to the state.

The journalist who was detained in Calabar prison and was refused bail, twice by Judge Shuaibu has finally regained freedom after 5 months.
