The Lagos government has pulled down Fela’s statue at Allen roundabout in Ikeja, which was unveiled by the former governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode in 2017.

According to Lagos state chief press secretary, Gboyega Akosile, the statue is one of the four roundabouts the Lagos state government has identified as a major cause of gridlock in the state.

The other roundabouts are located at Ikotun, Lekki-Epe expressway and Maryland roundabout.

Gboyega however said the artwork will be relocated to a more suitable location.

The statue was unveiled on October 15, 2017 in honor of the Afro-beat icon for his 79th Post-humus birthday.

The son of late Fela, Femi Kuti in an interview has said he is indifferent about the pull down or relocation of the statue of his father, adding that the government can do whatever they like.
