Your Place Is In The Office Making Money, Not In The Kitchen Making Dinner- Bisi Alimi Tells Women

Controversial gay rights activist Bisi Alimi has admonished women to reach for greater heights in a new social media post.

In the post where he talks about career and how women need to be more bold and assertive like their male counterparts, he expressed his sadness on seeing that more men applied for jobs that women were equally capable of doing, perhaps even better.

He attributes the timidity of women in the work place to patriarchy, insisting that it needs to stop going forward.

He finished off saying that women today need to realise that their place is no longer in the kitchen ‘making dinner’ but in the work place ‘making money.’

Read what he wrote below:

Dear Nigerian women, I am writing to you as an employer, pls be bold, be assertive. Apply for jobs, apply for training opportunities, put yourself out there. It is really sad to see that 99% of applications are from men and when women apply, they are mostly the best.

These men apply for jobs not because they are good, sometimes they dont even know what they are applying for. They mostly apply for these jobs cos they are men and they can.

When women apply for job, most of the times, they do because they know for sure they can do the job and this is why it is sad.

This is what patriarchy does to your mentality, it screws it up. It curbs your progress, it stops you from moving forward,

Nigerian women, your place is in the office making money and not in the kitchen making dinner.

Bisi Alimi, 43,  known for his bold controversial points of view is a Nigerian gay rights activist, public speaker, blog writer and HIV/LGBT advocate who gained international attention when he became the first Nigerian to come out of the closet on television. He is based in the UK, and married his parter Anthony Davis in 2016.
