ASUU Strike: Lucrative Student Learns Palm Oil In The Village (Photos)

A lucrative Nigerian student has decided to make good use of her time during the ongoing ASUU strike to learn a skill that will come in handy long after the strike is called off.

The young Nigerian Lady instead of wasting the time available been idle decided to learn how to make Palm Oil, in her village.

She shared photos of herself making palm oil in the village where she at the moment due to the strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

She wrote:

“So ASUU refused to call off the strike and I’m stuck in the village. Omo, making palm oil is not a day’s job. But anyway, it was fun and it’s an experience.”

Many higher institutions in Nigeria are currently on lock down with ASUU on an 11 -week long strike. They are demanding that the Federal Government fund higher institutions for better facilities and improved learning conditions.The union says it wont call off the strike until their demands are met by the Federal Government.

University teachers have been on strike since Nov. 4, 2018 over alleged non-implementation of agreements it entered into with the federal government in 2009 and 2017. Their demands are on better welfare package and improved teaching and learning environment, among other issues.

Three months after going on strike, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says it is still consulting with its members over offers made by the Federal Government.
The union’s National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that they would meet with officials of the government within the week.

According to him, government had made some offers in the course of meetings with ASUU which are still being being deliberated by members.

I really hope the strike is called off soon.
