In a very sad turn of events, popular Nigerian OAP Tosyn Bucknor has passed on.
Reports say that husband, Aurelien Boyer, found her unresponsive in her room last night when he got back home from work. She was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The OAP popularly known as ‘Area Mama’ was a vlogger, content creator and a staff of Inspiration FM where she hosted her own morning talk show.
While there is no official confirmation on cause of death yet, the 37 year old suffered from Sickle Cell Anaemia and reports have it that she might have lost the battle to complications resulting from the disease.
I have met Tosin at several events and the memories I have of her is how full of life she was. Just a couple of weeks ago, I still sat down with a couple of other people and we chatted about various things ranging from the situation of the country to how Nigerians never keep to time.
Here she is dancing at a Google event in July:
In November 2015, Tosyn and her husband Aurélien Boyer had their traditional wedding surrounded by family and friends in Lagos.
Five months later, they had their white wedding in France, Boyer’s home country.
Segun Bucknor, her father who was a popular musician and journalist, died in 2017.
Tosyn, as she was popularly called, started her OAP duties with Tee-A at Eko FM. She was also an intern at Cool FM where she hosted the ‘Fun Hour Show’ on Saturdays.
Bucknor joined Top Radio after her youth service in 2009 as the only female handling a morning show.
Tosyn Bucknor was nominated for several awards including Future Awards, ELOY Awards, and Best of Nollywood.
Until her death, the OAP who also doubled as a vlogger, was a staff of Inspiration FM where she hosted her own morning talk show.
Tosyn Bucknor studied Law at the University of Lagos and the Nigerian Law School but she had always been attracted to writing, talking, acting and singing.
May God grant her family the fortitude to bear her loss, Amen.
