NFF Begins Investigation Into ‘Bribe’ Received By Coach Salisu

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has commenced an investigation into the video showing Super Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf receiving money from reporters posing as football agents.

Ademola Olajire, NFF director of communications, made this known in a statement on Friday.

“For now, the NFF has commenced preliminary investigation into the matter to assist the committee on ethics and fairplay,” Olajire said.

Salisu was filmed receiving money suspected to be a bribe for the purpose of fielding two players at the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations in Ghana.

The clip was made public by BBC African Eye.

The meeting took place in Ghana during the 2017 WAFU Cup where Nigeria finished second after losing the final 4-1 to the host nation.

He was promised an additional 15 percent of the players’ contracts as soon as they are able to seal a deal abroad.

“So if anything goes through and these players are able to get their contracts, you will get 15% of that contract,” one of the reporters posing as an agent told Yusuf.

Meanwhile, the former Kano Pillars coach has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that he did not promise or commit to selecting any player in exchange for the money.

He claimed that he never asked the reporters for money and that it was just a gift offered to him.

Yusuf said he received $750, and not the $1000 claimed in the report.
