Man Allegedly Sets His Girlfriend’s House Ablaze In Abuja

A man identified as Ifeanyi Ede has been arraigned in court for allegedly setting his girlfriend’s houe ablaze in Abuja.

The man appeared on Thursday at a Kubwa Grade I Area Court on charges of assault and arson.

 Ede, who lives at Pipeline Kubwa Village, Abuja, pleaded not guilty to three charges of criminal trespass, causing mischief by fire and criminal intimidation.‎

Prosecutor Idowu Lawal had told the court that ‎Esther Yahaya of Kubwa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on Feb. 5.

Lawal said the accused criminally trespassed into the complainant’s house and set the house on fire on the said date. He said the complainant lost her valuables worth N94,000 in the fire.‎ And if not for the intervention of her neighbours, she would have lot her life as well

Lawal also said the accused while in police custody, threatened the complainant and did not show remorse after his arrest claiming he bought the properties lost by the lady and he had the right to do whatever he wanted to them.

He said the offence contravened sections 342, 337 and 397 of the Penal Code.

After taking the accused’s plea, the judge, Mohammed Marafa, granted him bail in the sum of N150,000 with one surety in like sum, and ordered that the surety must produce evidence of means of livelihood and identification.

He then adjourned the matter until March 5 for hearing.

This was just a similar case to a man that that beat his girlfriend to death in Lagos last year. The man identified as Victor Umeh was alleged to have beaten one Rachael Osu to death after an argument ensued between them

The couple who lived around Okota in Lagos were coming from a function when Rachael spotted an old friend of hers, which she stopped by to greet. Victor however proceeded home and waited for her at home.

On arrival, they were both reported to be involved in an argument after which Victor pounced on her and violently threw her against the sofa. She was reported to have died immediately.

The man however was caught when he made an attempt to run away, unknown to him that neighbours had laid siege when they heard noises coming from their home.
