Benue State Government Declares Three Days Mourning For 59 New Year Day Massacre Victims, To Hold Mass Burial For Them On Thursday January 11thBenue State government has declared three days of mourning for those killed in recent attacks on communities in Logo and Guma local government areas of the state. Suspected herdsmen attacked the communities on New Year day and on Saturday January 6th, killing 59 persons including a pregnant woman.

 

A statement released today by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, Terver Akase, says the deceased victims will be buried on Thursday, January 11th. He said the state government has declared a three days mourning period from Tuesday January 9th and Thursday January 11th.

 

“The mourning period will be from Tuesday to Thursday this week and end with a church service for the victims at the IBB square in Makurdi, followed by mass burial’.

Terver in his statement, said all flags are to be flown at half-mast throughout while work would close at 1:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday January 11th has been declared a work free day as the church service and burial of the victims would take place.
