You Must Stop Criticizing Funds Meant For Nigeria’s Security - Governor Dickson Warns Colleagues, Politicians

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state has warned politicians in the country to stop playing politics with funds and equipment allocated to the military and other security agencies.

Reports have it that Dickson said the support and provision of necessary equipment for military and security services was very important adding that such gestures should be devoid of politics.

According to the governor, it is the responsibility of government to prioritise security to be able to develop the society.

Speaking during a tour of military and security formations in Yenagoa at the headquarters of the 16th brigade, as well as the police officers mess in Bayelsa state, the governor called on the politicians to support the military and security agencies whose efforts were required to realize the objective of developing the society.

 

“I want to assure you that under my leadership, the issue of security and stability will continue to be on the front burner.

“The first responsibility of any administration is to encourage the work for peace and stability. You can’t have development without security.

“There should be no partisanship, no brinkmanship, no showmanship when it comes to the issue of giving necessary support and equipment to our men and women in uniform who are the only people that have volunteered to serve our nation at the risk of their life lives,” he reportedly said.

Reacting, the commissioner of police in the state, Amba Asuquo, thanked the governor for his support and added that 72 suspects arrested after a show of force in Yenagoa at the weekend were being screened.

He said a suspect, who robbed a manager of a new generation bank and another robber, who shot his colleagues while attempting to shoot a victim were also in police custody.

Brig General Kelvin Aligbe, who heads the 16 brigade of the Nigerian Army, also commended the governor for providing the resources that aided the realization of its operational objectives.

It was also earlier reported on how Governor Seriake Dickson replied Governor Ayodele Fayose and others making a ruckus over the $billion approved to fight insecurity.

He reportedly said the decision by the president was taken in good faith. Dickson who belongs to the same Peoples Democratic Party like Governor Ayodele Fayose, who has challenged the move in court, explained why the Governors’ Forum decided to grant Federal Government permission to utilize one billion dollars from the Excess Crude Account for security.
