UCH Mortuary Attendant Lands In Police Net For Decapitating Corpse

A mortuary attendant at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, Muritala Raimi, is being held at the Agodi prison on the orders of an Iyaganku Magistrate Court, Ibadan for allegedly decapitating a corpse.

The Punch writes that Raimi, 57, was caught with the head of the unidentified corpse concealed in a bag as he was trying to leave the premises of the hospital.

When stopped the UCH mortuary attendant tried to flee, but was caught by policemen in the hospital and was taken to the Yemetu Police Station.

 The charge sheet signed by one SP Adeniyi Odebiyi, read in part, “That you, Muritala Raimi, on March 15, 2017, at about 5.30pm at UCH Ibadan, in the Ibadan Magisterial District, did steal a human skull inside UCH mortuary, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 3 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. 11, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria.”

He pleaded not guilty to the charges. The magistrate, Akanni Monsurat, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum. He failed to meet the bail conditions and was consequently remanded in custody.

Unfortunately, the use of human body parts for money rituals is presently on the rise in the country. Some people believe that human body parts especially the head and pubic areas when used for charms bring good luck and instant wealth.
