Edson Cholbi do Nascimento, the son of Brazilian football legend Pele, has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for laundering drug money.

The 46-year-old retired footballer known as Edinho was originally convicted in 2014 of laundering money for a crime gang involved in drug trafficking and sentenced by a Brazilian court to 33 years in jail, then freed pending an appeal.

Brazilian media says a judge has now reduced the sentence to 12 years and 10 months.

Edinho, who denies the charges, was a goalkeeper in the 90s for several clubs, but never matched his father’s career.
