“Dear customer, please be informed that from 1st Dec, some MTN data tariffs will be increased to reflect the new rates set by the NCC to operators. Thank you”.

Above is the text message MTN, Africa’s mobile telecommunication giant sent to its subscribers today, confirming that it has danced to the tune of the Nigeria’s telecommunication regulatory agency to increase internet subscribers in the country.

Nigerian Communications Commission had earlier mandated all GSM Companies to raise data rates.

A representaitve of the Nigerian Communication Commission however said  that the commission is unaware of such plans by operators even as she said her superior ‘Bosses’ claimed ignorance of the circulated message.

“We are unaware of it, I just asked my Boss, they are unaware, we will forward your query to MTN for appropriate attention”. she said in a telephone call.

Blame it on all those chanting Sai Baba…
All this new administration does is take from the citizens… I’m guessing this is a new way to exploit the masses and also hinder them from being on the internet and social media. High price means limited time on net
